THE WINE

One of our go to favourite wines when you just want some great drinking that is easy to pair with food.  Muscadet with some extended lees aging to give extra body and weight to the wine.  This parcel is now certified organic.

THE PEOPLE

Bernard and Benoît Landron, a father-son team, operate Domaine Landron-Chartier, a family-run winery situated northeast of Nantes in the Loire Valley. In 2002, Bernard and his wife Françoise established the estate on the Coteaux d’Ancenis, expanding over time to encompass approximately 35 hectares across the Ligné and Oudon communes. Their vineyards, certified organic since 2012, are planted with grape varieties such as Melon de Bourgogne, Folle Blanche, Pinot Gris, and Gamay (Benoir's favourite). The diverse soils, including schist, gneiss, and sandstone, contribute to the unique character of their wines. Benoît, who joined the family business in 2008 after completing his studies in viticulture and oenology, has been instrumental in enhancing the estate's practices, including the introduction of sparkling wines like Pet-Nats in 2013. Currently Benoir is working on plans to move the whole vineyard operation oil-free by employing a team of shire horses to replace his tractors.

THE PLACE

The wines of Coteaux d’Ancenis, a small Loire Valley appellation neighbouring Muscadet, are known for their fresh and fruit-driven character. Located between Nantes and Angers, the region produces reds and rosés from Gamay, along with whites primarily from Pinot Gris, locally called Malvoisie and Melon de Bourgogne. The area's schist and gneiss soils, combined with a mild Atlantic-influenced climate, contribute to wines with bright acidity and mineral freshness. While often made in a light, easy-drinking style, some producers craft more structured and complex expressions, including dry and off-dry whites, as well as sparkling wines.
