Domaine de Lorient, founded in 2014 by Laure Colombo and Dimitri Roulleau-Gallais, is a dynamic project driven by a strong ecological vision and a fierce independence. Laure, the daughter of influential Rhône winemakers Jean-Luc and Anne Colombo, rejoined her family domaine in 2011 but soon sought to forge her own path alongside Dimitri. Together, they restored a 20-hectare abandoned farm at 550 meters above Saint-Péray, in the northern, granitic part of the Saint-Péray appellation. This terroir, with its decomposed granite soil, promised exceptional potential for producing some of the Rhône's finest wines, drawing the couple to this isolated spot.
Living on the converted farmhouse and working the land, Laure and Dimitri embrace a hands-on approach to farming and winemaking. They cultivate a diverse range of produce, from fruit trees and vegetables to livestock and grapes, fostering a deep connection with the land. Agroforestry plays a central role, with over 500 local trees planted to enhance biodiversity. Working in harmony with nature, the couple avoids modern industrial practices, instead focusing on sustainable, organic techniques, such as hand-hoeing the ground and using homemade fertiliser. The estate’s vineyard, planted by massal selection, includes a variety of Rhône grapes, with the aim of crafting wines that reflect both the unique terroir and the couple’s passion for quality, biodiversity, and sustainability.
The "Hunter’s Hut" cuvée originates from a tiny 0.3-hectare parcel of terraced hillside vines planted by Laure and Dimitri in 2014 using massal selection. Located in Eygas at the northern edge of the village, this east-facing vineyard sits at 300 meters altitude, just above the renowned Chaillots, where the Colombo family also has holdings. Isolated and surrounded by oaks, chestnut trees, and forest, the vines grow directly in granite bedrock with no topsoil. Grapes ripen about a week later here than in the southern part of the appellation, and the granite’s natural acidity, combined with organic farming and gentle winemaking, ensures freshness and vibrancy
