Closeries des Moussis, a small but dynamic winery in Médoc, is the creation of Pascale Choime and Laurence Alias, two women proudly challenging the region’s traditions. Pascale, an oenologist, and Laurence, an agricultural engineer specializing in biodiversity, built their winery from scratch in 2009, emphasizing financial independence. Starting with a historic 0.4-hectare lease of pre-phylloxeric vines, they’ve grown to 4.5 hectares across Margaux, Moulis-en-Médoc, and other prestigious plots. Their organic and biodynamic farming practices, aided by their three Trait-Breton horses, reflect a commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Renowned for crafting fresh, terroir-driven wines with minimal sulphur, Laurence and Pascale embrace experimentation, using diverse vessels like amphoras, eggs, and barrels. Unafraid to break with convention, they’ve faced criticism for their non-standard approach but persist in redefining Bordeaux norms. Rather than abandoning the Margaux appellation, they’ve chosen to challenge its traditions from within, attending AC meetings and asserting their vision for Bordeaux as a region capable of finesse and individuality. Their work represents a bold, women-led effort to reshape a system historically resistant to change.
